This was obviously some junior ringing to go through a script confirming CVs, but the script sucked. It started off with not pronouncing my name or my current employer's name correctly then went downhill, where I basically had to repeat everything that was on my CV (and it was a old CV), then came the fun part;

"Ok and who is your boss at your current firm?"
"The head of technical consulting"
"And that is?"
"Why?"
"To take a reference"
"But you haven't placed me anywhere, so until you do I won't name them" (not that it's hard to ring up reception and ask)
"But it's our policy to get that information now"
"And it's my policy not to give it out because it's unprofessional to have my poor boss get targeted calls from recruitment pimps"
"It's our policy. If you can't give me their name then we can't go any further with the application process"
"What application process? So far you've asked me to repeat everything that's on my CV"
"It's our policy to take names now. If you won't tell me I can't continue this conversation"
"Ok, bye then"
*sharp intake of breath heard as I hang up*

Please, we, as candidates aren't stupid. There's no real reason you need their details now, you just want to call up and try to shill your services. I haven't named the company not to protect them, but as soon as the information interrogation started they lost my interest and their name left my head.
