IMTC: "Hacking websites for fun and profit"

I say "umm" a lot. The sessions at the Irish Microsoft Technology Conference were recorded. You can see mine on askasqlguru.com (stop laughing Tony, I know I'm not a SQL guru, Niall Flanagan is and asked Chuck Boyce to host them).

Maybe it's the whole listening to your own voice thing, but I've never seen myself present and I'm cringing. A lot. I can only apologise to those who attended and didn't enjoy it or take anything useful away.

Yeah, I do it too. It's not until you see yourself that you notice it, but it's really hard to stop doing it. If you focus on the way you talk, trying to stop it, then you lose part of what's you; you become less at ease and the talk flows less well.

At least, that's what happened to me when I actively tried to stop the ums.

Get yourself along to your local toastmasters for a few months and they will teach you better public speaking skills and get rid of the "filler words".

Chuck Boyce interviewed me last week and I could not believe the number of erm, ahs, aaannnnddddd, & ehhh that I used.

I know exactly how you feel but we will always be our own worst critic.

Thanks for the talk and allowing us to record it. The IMTC was a huge success for us in Ireland and would not have been so, without willing speakers..
