Microsoft have a role called a developer evangelist. They’re the people that engage with the community, promote the new stuff coming out, through out swag, that sort of think. Think "marketing", but with the short skirts and good legs.
As such, certainly in the UK, they’re well known and "loved" by the user group community (well, they come speak to us for free; they have to, it’s their *job*).
One of the UK DPEs is leaving us; his last appearance is this week at Fest08. The community is obviously sad to see him go (but it does mean that there will be more MVP branded swag around ...)
For those of you that work at Microsoft and wonder if you can make a difference perhaps the outpouring of goodbyes and the tributes capture on the tribute mothcast from the UK community may convince you ....
convince you it’s probably a bad idea to engage *snicker*
