First the book was finished. Then I got my exam results and my degree. And finally to top everything off I can reveal one of the worst kept secrets I’ve had over the last couple of months …
That’s right I’ve been borged, taken the blue pill, sold my soul to the great Satan, however you want to put it; I view it as chance to go work on some software I’ve been excited about and with some people with huge pulsating brains and learn something new. Come the new year I’ll get that stamp on my passport, get my house packed up and sit on a plane for what always feels like an age, before landing, working out how to get an American SSN and then reporting for my chip implantation. Excited and scared is a pretty accurate description of my current state of mind.
For those of you who are wondering about the details I’ll be working as a Senior SDE with Mark Curphey and his merry gang in Microsoft IT Information Security Tools, the team behind CAT.NET, the Web Protection Library (previously AntiXSS), the Web Application Configuration Analyzer and all sorts of other good security stuff. Well, you couldn’t see me as a PM could you now?
Getting everything organised takes some time, so I’m hoping to use DDD#8 as my swansong for the UK developer community, a community I will be very sad to leave behind. I will also be leaving behind my MVP status, but the awards will take pride of place in my office. I even have some MVP laptop stickers with which to decorate my corporate laptop. Talking of my office it will have no windows. Time to buy a light box and stock up on vitamin D supplements!
Now, who’s up for leaving drinks once I have a firm leaving date, or would you all rather nominate someone to just make sure I’ve got on the plane? :)
