Social Media Mularky
Ugh. Memes. How I Got Started In Software Development.

Damn you MacKay (oh, how very Stargate) How old were you when you started programming? You young people today with your 4Gb of memory and your multi-core processors and your fancy disk drives. It’s not like I was when I was young, oh no. My school had an RM 380Z, with a grand 4Kb of memory, 8" floppy drives a fat clunky keyboard and a main CPU box that was the size of 2 Xboxes. How did you get started in programming? The computer teacher was our headmaster. He couldn’t really cope. So I grabbed the manual myself...

Because sometimes you have to give into the memes.

I had to. Just this once (and not just because a certain someone keeps demanding more kittens in my presentations and blog posts). I now hate myself. Technorati tags: meme, lolcat, quantum, Schrödinger’s cat

Craig Murphy takes my (podcasting) virginity.

Last Thursday Craig Murphy was down in London (in a tie!) and we met up in the White Hart pub in Dury Lane and out came his recorder and we meandered through social networking (FaceBook, Twitter and so on), identity, security, CardSpace, trust in managed card providers and other security topics that popped into my head as I brain dumped. This was my first full podcast (Dave & Rich from nxtgen have mugged me for slots before of course) I believe at 38:04 minutes it’s the longest podcast Craig has ever recorded (the beep censoring my language included but I was...

The Greatest Living American

When I used to work in streaming media Brandon Wirtz was very active on the WM mailing list. Now he's on a quest to become the Greatest Living American. Admittedly I don't know who Stephen Colbert is, not living in yank land, but apparently he's on a quest with Alchemist Media via SEO to grab the title via google bombing. Sod that, making someone working on an MS campus rank as the Greatest Living American amuses me :) Of course making Brandon the Greatest Undead American tickles me even more.   Technorati tags: meme, greatest living american

Welcome to subtext

If you're reading this then the DNS update has happened and you're viewing my new host and my new blog. As you can see it's not the old software which was held together with sticky tape and string and was entirely my own work. I'm now running Subtext, an asp.net open source blogging solution branched from .Text and now mutated beyond belief. Now all I need to do is apply the categories to every post and make sure no images have broken. If you're seeing 404 errors, my apologies, I've tried to automate the procedure and redirect, but I may...

happy blog day link whores

Today is blog day, a day for link whores everywhere to get google love. If anyone links to them that is... We're supposed to take five links and list them with a short description. Oh, and let the owners know we're doing it. Well, I'll do the list, but I much prefer the idea of surprising people when they stumble over the link later <g> There's no point in simply repeating my blog roll victims, so ... Overheard in New York Random snippits of weird conversation heard on the streets of...
